15th ZNU Future Conference

A new start for sustainability – entrepreneurial. Effective. Creative.
Date: May 6 & 7, 2026 | Location: Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex (Oktogon), Essen

Is sustainable entrepreneurship “out”?

Many companies are facing the challenge of rethinking sustainability. Support programs are ending, legal requirements are changing, and political support is becoming more unstable. Against this backdrop, sustainability activities often need to be reevaluated—especially in the face of short-term economic pressure. And yet there are numerous companies—especially medium-sized ones—that are using sustainability as a business opportunity.

The answer is clear: No, now is the time to take action!

Sustainability is not a short-term trend, but an expression of genuine corporate responsibility and collective creative power. Those who act out of conviction and live by clear values create cooperation that goes beyond compliance. In this way, sustainability becomes the foundation of credible business practices and long-term success.

Under the motto “A New Start for Sustainability – Entrepreneurial. Effective. Creative,” we cordially invite you to the 15th ZNU Future Conference on May 6 and 7, 2026.

The current challenges also open up new opportunities. The conference will focus on the contribution of companies to sustainable transformation:

• How can corporate strategies combine ecological, social, and economic goals – and create real added value in the process?

• How can companies succeed in taking on responsibility beyond legal requirements?

What can you expect?

Look forward to inspiring keynotes, practical panels, and intensive exchanges in workshops with leading representatives from business, science, politics, and civil society. Together, we will explore the following questions:

• How sustainability can be thought of in business terms and implemented consistently and successfully

• Which levers and strategies have an ecological, social, and economic impact?

• How do leadership, culture, and values drive change in practice?

• How can sustainability be communicated transparently and credibly—both internally and externally?

For everyone who doesn't want to wait for change, but wants to actively shape it.

Be there when we dare to make a new start together.

Looking back to the future

The ZNU's Future Conferences have been taking place for over 10 years. Each conference has a different theme, which participants focus on. Here you will find a review of the last two ZNU Future Conferences.

Climate neutral? Sustainable? Together! Do it!

With the Green Deal 2030 and the political goal of climate neutrality by 2050, Europe has committed to implementing sustainability measures. The 140 participants discussed how to tackle these challenges with speakers such as Professor Dr Mi-Yong Becker from Bochum University of Applied Sciences, Dr Antje von Dewitz, Managing Director of VAUDE, and Dr Reiner Münker from the Wettbewerbszentrale.

Shaping the transformation process together.

Around 120 participants discussed ideas and solutions in the areas of climate protection, preventing food loss, recyclable packaging, promoting human rights in the supply chain and promoting biodiversity. Dr Ophelia Nick, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Annika Ahlers, Co-Lead of the Farm-Food-Climate Challenge and Florian Haarlandt, Coordinator of the German Sustainability Code, were among those who provided impetus on relevant topics.
